lesson 3-05: solo blues

This piece is a rhythm and lead style blues. The open 1 octave E blues scale is used. Make sure you know the scale before attempting this piece. If you do not know this scale, see the scales section (first scales).

Try clapping the rhythm of the lead parts before playing them. If you cannot read the rhythms checkout essential basics (reading rhythms part 2)

Try to tap your foot as you play, and play very slowly at first. The difficult thing here is getting from the rhythm playing to the lead guitar phrase and back, whilst maintaining your timing.

When you can play this piece, try creating your own phrases. All the notes in the scale will work, let your ears be the guide. Don't forget to try some hammer-on's and pull-off's, and slides to enhance your lead playing.
